Thousand Islands Goat Farm
A lesser-known cog of the region's agriculture industry is goat farming. The Thousand Islands Goat Farm is an example of what one family has done to keep their farm acreage viable. The Stumpfs added goats to their herd in 2005 and have since specialized in raising Boer goats, which are valued for their high quality, lean meat that is popular for a variety of ethnic holiday celebrations. U.S.D.A. frozen goat cuts are sold from the farm as well as at a local grocery store. The goats are also sold as breeding stock and as pets.
Tours provide children with a chance to interact and feed these jubilant and playful animals. The Stumpfs are home almost every day, but it's still a good idea to call ahead at 315-654-4839.
